We stopped in on our way to our wedding venue hoping to find a place to cater pies for our wedding. They indeed have pies and the banana creme pie we tried was awesome! And I'm a serious pie eater. They were super helpful, friendly, and lunch was delicious. We can't wait to try all 14 of the pies we ordered from them!

I was on a road trip from Milwaukee to Chicago and starving. Saw this on Yelp! and decided to stop for breakfast. Parking lot was packed. The place has a high ceiling and a medium steady noise level. Very bright and airy due to lots of lights and ceiling fans. There are some "antiques" in the back for sale. Bathroom was clean. I ordered the 2x2x2: 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, and 2 slices of toast. I got the eggs over easy with cheddar cheese melted on top, crisp bacon, and wheat toast with cheesy hash browns and a side of fresh fruit. The breakfast was delicious and the cheese abundant. The egg was over medium but everything else as requested. I forgot to order the toast dry but luckily it did not have too much butter on it. They have the jelly in plastic square packages on the table like most diners. I also ordered OJ. I usually order 1/2 OJ and 1/2 grapefruit juice but they didn't have grapefruit juice. The wait did seem long for a breakfast place but it was worth it. I took a page from the play book of another yelper and got a cookie to go- cranberry walnut. It improved the road trip!

On a splurge, I ordered pancakes with glazed pecans and baked apples. WOW - hot, fluffy, buttery! It was worth the 4 mile walk I felt compelled to take later! Earlier this summer I had a wrap -- also very good -- and dined on their patio, which is completely hidden from the busy intersection. The service was very friendly on both occasions. I wouldn't say my meals took extremely long, but then again this is not a place to stop if you are really in a hurry. They do have signs hinting at this!

To me, chocolate silk pie always tasted like a yucky chocolate pudding cup dumped in a pre-made shell from Roundy's. And then I went to Country Rose, and my world was turned upside down. That is all.

I thought my homemade chocolate cake was good, that was until I had the Chocolate Dream cake from Country Rose. This is one you will dream about! Triple layer 10" Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Mousse Filling & Chocolate Fudge Icing. Current price is $40.00 but worth every penny. I may never bake again. Be sure to call 4 days ahead for the Choc Dream (262) 878-5474 Country Rose is conveniently located at the corner of Hwys 20 and 45 just north of Union Grove. Enjoy!!

This is a resturaunt you almost have to know is there if you're going to see it. Ate the a few times last summer, impressed each time. A bit out of the way for me though. If you're in the neighborhood for breakfast or lunch, you should give it a try.

Located at the intersection of Highways 20 and 45, this cafe pops up in the "middle of nowhere". Primarily a bakery, this place serves up delicious breakfast and lunch. The omelettes, sausage pie, and biscuits and gravy are all highly recommended.

My husband and I had stopped here once before, but it had been awhile. We were headed to Burlington from Caledonia and decided to stop for breakfast on a Friday morning. The parking lot was packed, but when we were inside there were plenty of tables. We seated ourselves and waited. And waited. And waited. It took 10 minutes for the wait staff to acknowledge us and another table that entered the restaurant after us was given their menus before us. Needless to say, the Country Rose wasn't off to a good start. We got our menus and ordered coffee. The look on the server's face should have clued us in. She gave us this quizzical look and then headed to the server's station to fetch our coffee. This is when we noticed they stop serving breakfast at 11am. It was 11:05 at this point. I resigned myself to lunch (which was not what I wanted, but there's not a lot of choices in Burlington). My husband decided to ask if breakfast was still an option seeing as we were so close to the cutoff. When our server returned with our coffee she informed us that breakfast was over. No exceptions. We each ordered our food and savored our coffee (mine with just sugar as I wasn't offered cream). The place was a tad bit noisy, but otherwise just fine. Our food arrived after a slight delay, but it was the right temperature and looked good. The portions are quite generous. I had the cucumber dill turkey wrap and my husband had the grilled ham and cheese. Both were excellent choices. The kitchen staff knows what they're doing. After a few minutes with our food, my husband was out of coffee and in need of a refill. We tried several times to get our server's, or any server's attention. The usual techniques were employed: the eye contact, the head jut, the hand in the air. Nothing was working. Finally we managed to snag another server and ask for some more coffee. She brushed us off as if to say, "You're not my table, what do I care?" At this point we were more than a little frustrated. Another 10 minutes went by before we got more coffee. Then another 10 minutes before we got our bill despite the fact the our server had already cleared our plates. I had begun to worry that we were being targeted with bad service for some unknown reason until I noticed a woman sitting in the last booth. She had been waiting patiently for at least 15 minutes to receive her check. She had cleared her plates and piled them neatly at the edge of the table. And she just sat and waited. I felt so bad for her. It wasn't until right before we left that the staff started to up their game. I noticed orders coming out faster and just better service all around. From what I could tell, the woman in charge had shown up and the staff finally decided to do their jobs. I will not be returning to the Country Rose, even though the food was fabulous. The time I wasted and the service I was provided are simply not worth it. I can get better service at Culver's.

Charming, great service and food and bakery. Can't wait to sit in patio in summer! Got a free piece of cake for 9 year anniversary in business.

Stopped in just because I've driven by this building so many times. I was hungry and there it was, by golly :) It was lunch time, parking lot was crowded but not full. Service was friendly, but a tad slow. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea (only tea flavor option), side salad and soup. Some teas can be weak or strong, this tea was pretty good, IMO. The side salad was surprisingly generous and quite good. There was no ice burg lettuce to be found. Mostly spinach and romaine lettuces and torn into bite-sized pieces which was a plus! There were chopped tomatoes, 2 thin sliced cucumbers and long thin pieces of real Parmesan cheese. I ordered the Balsamic Dressing and it was also good. The salad was very fresh. I ordered the cream of broccoli soup which was served hot with a sprinkling of chopped parsley on top. Pretty rich but not overly thick. There was plenty of broccoli to be had in every spoonful. Also, a warm slice of crusty bread was served with butter. Meal total came in under $10. Lastly, I grabbed a big macadamia nut/white chocolate chip cookie for $1.50 on the way out. Yummy! Was well worth the stop. Quit driving by already and stop in! p.s. Only open until 4 p.m.!! ~

What's not to like at this place?! Breakfast is delicious and if you go around certain holidays, you will really get a treat! Pumpkin pancakes in the fall and a really special Christmas menu. Lunch has many options for soup, salad, sandwiches, or wraps. The lattes are delicious, and the bakery is to die for! Cakes, pies, donuts....you HAVE to try the Cinnamon Rolls! I have even been there for a few of their "Bistro Nights" where they serve an elegant dinner. You have to reserve a table so call to find out when they will be having the next one. I love this place!!!

Mmmmm... Country Rose is a dream come true! As others noted, this earns extra points because it is located in the middle of nowhere where the choices are way limited, but it still stands as a great little restaurant all on its own. The place has a crisp, clean feel with a homemade, country charm. You really feel like your own grandma is in the back baking up yummy treats and making her homemade hashbrown casserole. I love the hometown atmosphere, the genuinely friendly staff and the presentation and deliciousness of the food. I have only visited for breakfast, which has always been perfect, but I have heard lunch, especially the soups, are really good. They always have a great selection of bakery items, too. Before you make the drive out, they are closed on Sundays!

Keep in mind that all things are relative. In my mind it's worth five stars for Union Grove, but that doesn't mean this would be a five star in New York or San Francisco. (It would still be good, but it wouldn't really stand out). It's got very good food in what is otherwise an abyss of fast food chains and crappy diners. I'm from the area, but don't live there anymore, and we went here for breakfast when I was visiting my parents. It seems to me like this would be an awesome pit stop on a long bike or motorcycle ride. In fact, I'm surprised there weren't throngs of road bikers hanging out here.
